Other people before me seem to have also noticed that SSS equals 666. As time goes by, people go to and fro, knowledge is increased, and matters sealed until the time of the end are revealed, the 666 number seems more and more to be the SSS number. The Greek letter ς (pronounced sigma) is related to the numeral 6.

SSS in Greek is ςςς sigma sigma sigma (or stigma, stigma, stigma). The book of Revelation was originally written in Greek. Now 666 in Greek can be written as ςςς'. An apostrophe like mark after the sigma ς' indicates that it is the number 6 instead of the letter sigma of the Greek alphabet. The little apostrophe like mark after a character, tick mark, is how the Greeks used letters to represent numbers as you can see at the following webpages among others:

Greek Numerals

The Greek letter alpha α matches the letter A of the English alphabet. The letter beta ß of the Greek alphabet matches the letter B of the English alphabet. The word alphabet comes from Alpha beta which are the first 2 letters of the Greek ABCs. The Greek letter Sigma ς matches the letter S of the English alphabet. Websites above tell how the Greeks represented numbers by letters of their alphabet followed with a tick mark. ie ς = sigma, ς' = 6. Notice the similarity in appearance between ς and 6. Notice the similarity in the sound and spelling between Six and Sigma. The letter sigma is also written as σ which looks like a 6 with a short top.

Various sources trace the origin of the letter S and ς to ancient depictions of a coiled serpent. The hissing sound made by pronouncing the letter S is suggestive of the sound a snake makes. It seems to reflect the origin of S and why S is spoken as it is.

If you have ever tried to open a bank account, get a job, get a credit card, or conduct business you know that the SSS number is required for it. If you applied for jobs as a youngster before you had an SSN you may remember potential employers telling you that you needed to have an SSN before you could be hired. The SSN is the number needed to be employed, to do business involving the exchange of money, to buy and sell, just as prophesied at Revelation 13:17 - no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.

Revelation 15:2 tells of those who will overcome the beast and the number of his name.

The books of Daniel and Revelation shed light on what the mark of the beast is. These verses show that beast means kingdom:

Daniel 7:17 The four great beasts are four kingdoms that will rise from the earth.

Daniel 7:23 "He gave me this explanation: 'The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on the earth.'

Rev 13:2 The beast that I saw was like a leopard. Its feet were like bear's feet. Its mouth was like a lion's mouth. The serpent gave its power, kingdom, and far-reaching authority to the beast.

Rev. 16:10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was plunged into darkness.

=> The verses above show that beast represents kingdom. Now a kingdom is a nation's government ruled by its top official and his subordinates. The word kingdom comes from the two words king's domain. The kingdom is also the area controlled by the nation's government. Therefore the mark of the beast is the mark of the nation's government. Now with what do the nations' governments mark their citizens ? What must an immigrant accept to become a naturalized citizen ? The answer is the 666 number, the SSN, the Social Security System number.

The SSS did not originate in the USA but is a product of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) founded 1927 in Brussels, Belgium. The ISSA is the principal international organization bringing together national social security administrations and agencies. The ISSA currently has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, in the International Labor Office (ILO). The USA is by no means the only nation using SSS. There are over 150 nations using a social security system. The SSS covers practically all people and all nations which fits well with Revelation 13:16 - He required everyone great and small, rich and poor, slave and free to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead.

=> The mark of the beast being on the forehead seems to mean the SS number being memorized in the forehead. The right hand is used to write a check, handle a credit card, sign forms, and conduct business. The bank or credit card company issuing the credit card or handling the check must have your 666 number (SSS number) before they issue a card to you, let you open a bank account, write checks, or do business with them. Similarly, you cannot be hired into a job without providing your SSS number to the employer. Buying, selling, employment, doing business, or exchanging money is difficult or impossible without the 666 number; see Revelation 13:17 - no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.

=> Rev 13:17 tells us the mark can be either of two things:
1 - The mark can be the name of the beast.
2 - The mark can be the number of his name.

As previous scriptures show, beast in the symbology of prophecy means kingdom or government. Therefore the mark of the beast is the mark of a government. The phrase "In the name of" means "by authority of." The "name of the beast" therefore can mean "by authority of the government" or by "permission of the government" or by "order of the government."

The currencies of all nations have the name of their nation on their currency. For example, US currency has the name of the nation "The United States of America" printed on both sides of the currency. The only legal authorization to print the currency is from the government of the nation whose name is on the currency. Therefore money fits the criteria of "the name of the beast." ..no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. That is, the mark can be legal authorization of a nation to buy or sell. This brings to mind what is printed on US currency: "This note is legal tender for all debts public and private."

The "number of his name" means the number authorized by the nation. Practically all nations now have an SS System which assigns numbers to the citizens/subjects of their nation. Therefore "the number of his name" means the number assigned by a nation to an individual within the nation. For many types of buying and selling, SS numbers are required to do business, especially when large sums of money are involved.

Prior to about 1900 most people were much less literate than today and many could not read and write. A man would often "make his mark" with an X to endorse a check or sign for something. Therefore mark can also mean endorsement or signature or authorization.

Until relatively recent times monetary value was measured by weight of gold or silver. In the time Daniel or Revelation was written, paper money was unknown. Today each government authorizes and approves its own paper currency which has the mark (endorsement signature authorization) of the nation's (beast's) leading treasury official; Secretary of the Treasury in the case of the USA. The currency has the name of the nation printed on it, therefore the money has the name of the beast printed on it because beast means government or kingdom as verses above clearly show.

Currency is often used instead of credit cards or checks to buy and sell. The buyer and seller typically handle the currency with their right hand and in doing so they have the mark of the beast in their right hand. To buy or sell you must use either currency, card, or check. Currency carries the name of the beast (nation, kingdom) on it. Cards and checks require an individual's SSN (number of the beast) to be on file with the bank issuing the checks or cards.

The number 666 appears at 3 places in the NIV bible outside Revelation. At two of these 3 places, 666 is the number of talents of gold - 1 Kings 10:14 and 2 Chronicles 9:13. The oldest and most universally accepted standard for money is gold. Here again, 666 is connected with money which is necessary for buying and selling.

The third place where 666 appears outside Revelation is Ezra 2:2-14 where 666 is the number of men descended from Adonikam. Some versions have "sons of Adonikam." Various references give the Hebrew meaning of Adonikam as "Lord of the enemy." By this association Ezra 2:13 connects 666 with descendants of the Lord of the enemy - children of the devil, in other words. Who did Jesus call children of their father the devil at John 8:44 ?

In all three of these verses above where 666 occurs, 666 is connected with either money or the number of men.

Prophecy states that no one could buy or sell without the mark of the beast or the number of his name. Gold and silver could no longer be used to buy and sell. So, whatever is used to buy and sell in place of gold and silver is what the mark of the beast is.

On April 5, 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 6102 prohibiting gold possession by American citizens. Silver coins were last minted in 1964, the year after JFK was assassinated.

Gold and silver were replaced with paper money, checks, and credit cards as the only way to buy and sell. Therefore paper money and bank accounts which link to credit cards and checks are the only things that fit the criteria of the mark of the beast.

The unit of currency in Germany is the mark, but its being replaced by the Euro. The German mark is not called the mark of the beast by the German government, but none the less, the mark is the money authorized and printed by the German government.

Beast means government or kingdom in bible prophecy as shown above. The bible has many warnings against money and riches and it appears the end time is a time to be especially wary. Money is necessary in buying and selling whether in the form of check, card, or cash.

The SSS number is necessary to get a job, open a bank account, get a credit card, receive social security payments, buy and sell, things that involve the exchange of money. The SSS number is closely connected with money, buying, and selling - it is man's number. His number is 666 - Revelation 13:18

The way the GNT version of the bible has Rev 13:18 is - the number stands for the name of someone. That is just what an SSN is, a number that stands for the name of someone. The beasts (nations' governments) track their subjects moreso by SSN numbers than by names. Thousands of people may be named John Smith but each has a unique SSN.

People may have many numbers, ie phone numbers, street numbers, drivers license numbers, apartment numbers, credit card numbers, and so forth, but a phone number can be and often is reassigned to someone else as with a room number, street number, etc. Not so with the SSN. The SSN is assigned to you until you die. The SSN is truly man's number. It is the number the beast/kingdom/government uses to mark its people.

Stigma Stigma Stigma equals 666 or SSS but because stigma also means mark, 666 can mean SS Mark. The SSN is the number we are marked with by the beast (government / kingdom).

The 2 verses below from Revelation suggest that what we need, to escape the mark of the beast, is the seal of God.

Revelation 7:3 "Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God."

Revelation 9:4 They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

The 2 verses below from Exodus seem to suggest what that seal of God is.

Exodus 13:9 This annual festival will be a visible reminder to you, like a mark branded on your hands or your forehead. Let it remind you always to keep the LORD's instructions in your minds and on your lips.

Exodus 13:16 This ceremony will be like a mark branded on your hand OR YOUR forehead. It is a reminder that the power of the LORD's mighty hand brought us out of Egypt.

The 2 verses from Exodus above about a mark on the hand or forehead are talking about Passover and the blood of the Passover Lamb. Those who are covered by the blood of the Lamb have the seal of God on them. Those who have faith in Jesus, the Lamb of God, as their Savior are covered by His blood.

Jesus offered himself as our sacrificial lamb when He shed his blood for us on the cross. When we believe that Jesus is our savior, Jesus gives us his Holy Spirit. When we accept the invitation to follow Jesus, put our faith in Him, and become a Christian, it is answering the Lord's call.

Accepting Jesus also means accepting the invitation to the wedding supper of the Lamb. Only the firstborn will be at the wedding supper of the Lamb. When the blood of the lamb covered the homes of the ancient Israelites in Eygpt, it protected the firstborn. The death angel killed only the firstborn who were not protected by the blood of the lamb. People who were not firstborn were unaffected.

There is also a prophecy about a mark on the forehead at Ezekiel 9:4-5

Summary:
=> SSS in the English alphabet matches ςςς in the Greek alphabet and Revelation was written in Greek. ς is pronounced sigma and matches the letter S. ς' is pronounced stigma and is the number 6. Stigma also means a bad mark, scar, or blemish which is undesirable or disgraceful. So, 666 can translate from the original Greek as SSS' or Stigma, Stigma, Stigma or bad mark, bad mark, bad mark or some combination of these such as SS mark. The SSN is required to buy and sell as was prophesied about the number 666. The criteria of the 666 number and the mark of the beast described in the Bible fits the SSN like a glove fits a hand.

Rev 15:2 says some will overcome the beast and the number of his name. The blood of the Lamb which comes from faith in Jesus is the way by which we can overcome the mark of the beast.
